Educators value the involvement and support of parents, guardians, families and communities in schools.

During the 490 four week practicum, I demonstrated standard four in the following ways:

-Sent an introduction letter home for families to get to know me, my teaching philosophy, and my role in the classroom.

-Built relationships with families by attending parent-teacher meetings where I respectfully shared my insight and asked for their opinions.

– Attended a virtual union meeting to enhance my understanding of the profession.

-Attended a school-based meeting to deepen my understanding of school roles and support systems.

-Connected with fellow teachers in the lunchroom, hallway for advice and feedback.

-Sat in on two different classes to gain a deep understanding of different teaching approaches.

-Sent letter home to families explaining our field trip plan and asking for permission.

During this experience, I learned having open and active relationships with families and colleagues presents opportunities to share ideas, insight, offer support, and share resources. Ultimately, it presents opportunities to develop a trusting rapport where teachers can work collaboratively with families and the school community to work towards a common goal.
